Saturday link-fest

I'm taking a tip from the provocative R.S. McCain, notorious journalist and blog mentor/consultant. Saturday mornings will be for sharing the love and calling your attention to good stuff you might have missed last week. Much of it will come, not coincidentally, from bloggers who have selflessly linked to me. A rising tide of links raises all hit counts, right?

The Hyacinth Girl kicks it off with commentary on that whole crisitunity thing that Obama and his comrades are so into. Yes, it was once frowned upon to take advantage of people in crisis. And if you're in need of a dose of puppy, here it is.

Thanks to the Lights of Albuquerque, whose author points out that every child is a blessing, even the fourteen children of Nadya Suleman. And another LofA post reminds the Obama admin geniuses of this glaringly overlooked fact on stem cell research :

The only advances being made in stem-cell research that have a positive and meaningful result are - now get this
NOT EMBRYONIC STEM-CELLS

Some rank incredulity (and who can blame him?) from the Creative Minority Report on Bill Clinton's and Sanjay Gupta's cluelessness about where babies come from. Guys, you need to review.

More on stem cells here.

From The 46, a possible, though highly improbable, effect of This Economy: a four-day school week.

TAMPA, Fla. – With the nation's school districts strapped for cash, more are considering a schedule that delights students and makes working parents cringe: Class only four days a week.

By extending school hours and eliminating a day of classes each week, education officials say they could save busloads of money on transportation and utilities.

What do you expect for $8000 per pupil (or if you live in DC, about three times that amount)? Perhaps school districts could fire some grossly overpaid administrators and free up some funds for education that way. The four-day week has been a reality in areas in some western states for years. But in general, parents are loath to give up the state babysitting service they pay so dearly for.

More on education from Donald Douglas at American Power: America's Academic Tragedy.
Put on your thinking cap and browse around. There's quantity as well as quality here. Prof. Douglas has taken RSM's rule 4 to heart and acquired himself some enthusiastic enemies. Well, actually, he had plenty of enemies before RSM's seminal work was published. You'll find them in the comments.

Jihad Watch continues to do the very heavy lifting on alerting us to the encroachment and threats of radical Islam:
Obama drops term 'enemy combatant'
Obama insists on 'forging new ties' with Muslims
Beheader pleads innocent
UK jihadist: I want to see flag of Allah over Downing Street
And this, from Creeping Sharia: Muslim countries seek to ban youtube

Camille Paglia, in Heads Should Roll, calls the Obama administration on their disconcerting ineptitude, but blames his staff and still supports him. And she makes a statement about Rush Limbaugh that could have been written about herself:
Nevertheless, I respect Rush for his independence of thought and his always provocative news analysis. He doesn't run with the elite -- he goes his own way.
The lecturing from the Obama administration is already getting pretty old. Thanks, Dad, for telling us to stop being greedy (and fearful!) and maxing out our credit cards. But your actions speak much louder than your words.

Throwing this in at the last minute - from Doug Ross: Red Alert: Obama's 'Civilian National Security Force' Resurfaces

Comic relief time. Burning Toast posted this wonderful video of Victoria Jackson on Hannity. (I posted it, too, but I got it from him.) And the Ozark Guru posts an amusing comparison of Obama to Lincoln, here.

Lastly, this woman is a bad influence on me. I'm making these this morning. My family will think they've died and gone to heaven. But it won't advance me toward my goal of being Helen Mirren when I grow up.

Friends that I've missed this time around: I'll try to do better next time. If you've written something wonderful that you think I'll appreciate, please email me. The sheer quantity of blogs makes it impossible not to miss some good things.
