Haute couture ain't what it used to be. Here's the Empress in Paris. She's definitely wearing clothes, but is this really a look to die for? (Click on pic to enlarge.)
I'm not so much criticizing her style (though this doesn't work for me at all) as I am trying to understand why the fashion world is falling all over itself in adoration of it. She can look great (as below in classic black dress), but sometimes, as in above, she needs a little more help. But because she's the first lady of the ultra-lib Euro-American president nothing but effusive praise will do, even when our lying eyes tell us otherwise.

Egad. Not only are they ugly, they are not in the same color way as the rest of her outfit.
Did she get dressed in the dark? Or did she fire her personal valet as well?
"Not only are they ugly, they are not in the same color way as the rest of her outfit." My thoughts exactly. And the cut of those clothes is not flattering at all. Surprising, with all that staff.
