Victor Davis Hanson conveys the Orwellian/Tripodian/'Body-snatched' flavor of the Obama-time:
Read the rest.I think Obama remains popular because there is now no bad news. I saw this recent headline blaring, "Surge in Labor Force Shows U.S. Workers Gaining Confidence" and was uplifted — until way down into the article this little bit was unfortunately left in by some un-podded censor, "The gain in the labor force in part helps explain why the jobless rate jumped to 9.4 percent in May, the highest since 1983." Where did that icky guy come from?In any case, we are happier waking up as alien duplicates. At least no one is dying in Iraq that we know of. Our Predator drones no longer kill anyone besides terrorists. Military tribunals, renditions, and wiretaps are a-okay. GM and Chrysler are finally "readjusting." The Muslim world likes us now. If $2 trillion deficits are okay, why not $3 trillion? Terrorists are unmentioned and so no longer exist. Europeans ask why can't they have their own Obama.
More on this, and the death of the main stream media, henceforth to be called the State Run Media, from Keemo in the Green Room:
Taking the place of the print media formerly knows as the MSM, is the State Run Media, or SRM abbreviated. Yes some faces look familiar. Yes some voices sound familiar. But don’t let any of that fool you, as the boss of this industry now resides in Washington DC and hands down the directives each day.On what Obama is doing to the auto industry, from a dealer's point of view:
On Obama's growing appetite for executive power, Karna Small Bodman called Rush Limbaugh today to point out that our current president rivals Russia in its number of czars:"Look, it would take me forever to tell you all the things these guys have done wrong," Fitzgerald bellowed into his cellphone as he walked a TV reporter through the industry's perceived sins. Later, in a call to a car-dealer lobbyist, he complained about the government's involvement.
"These task force guys are going to cost taxpayers a fortune if they don't get this fixed," Fitzgerald said. "You can't just jump into an industry just because you have an MBA and are from Wall Street. It doesn't mean you know it."
"Sometimes I think about it, and I feel like I might be in Russia," he told a lawyer for some dealers in one phone call.
"I can take care of me," he told them. "It's not about me. It's about viable businesses that are being told to close by irresponsible, incompetent managers from Detroit who are being kept on the job by a task force that lacks experience." He paused. "No, make that arrogant, not incompetent."
CALLER: You know, Rush (laughs) the Russians, starting in the year 1600, up to the last of them, they appointed 22 czars. It took them, you know, 400 years or so, and they had one at a time. Obama's got 21 of them in five months, and what people don't realize is that these people serve quote "at the pleasure of the president." They're not confirmed by the Senate. Most of these activities are ones that would normally take place in a cabinet office.Read the rest.
RUSH: Yeah, that's right. That was my point. He was superseding his cabinet people.
CALLER: Well, precisely. He's setting up all kinds of problems there, that's another issue. But all the cabinet people are confirmed by the Senate down to the assistant secretary level. They go up to the Hill, give testimony, and so the Hill, of course, has oversight and all that sort of thing. I mean, even Senator Bobby Byrd has been upset about this. He's tried to put out a couple of press releases questioning the way this is threatening the constitutional balance of power.
Mark Steyn can't resist playing with words and calls for a wise czarina and maybe a dance czar, stat. Wise Latina she may be, but Sonia Sotomayor is no Mark Steyn when it comes to vocabulary; in 2001 she declared that she didn't know "what liberal means." Ed Whelan straightens her out on the concept. Thoroughly. Andy McCarthy responds with more.
And just for fun, check this out (but take your blood pressure meds first): Joy Behar thinks baptism is like waterboarding.
