I haven't read the long VF hit piece on Sarah. I think I'll stick with the Cliff Notes version thoughtfully supplied by Jim Geraghty, and read RS McCain's several postings on it if I can psyche myself up. It's just so ugly.
I've tried to avoid the disturbing weirdness from Andrew Sullivan about the birth of Trig Palin. You'd think ignoring it might make it go away, especially eight months after the election. But no. He's still beating on this ghost of a dead horse. There's something very unhealthy going on here.
But RS McCain has drawn me in. So I've left a comment (pending approval) on his post, here, in case you're interested.
I'm a huge Sarah Palin fan and a fellow mom-of-many. In my mind she's the anti-Obama. To see her distorted, smeared, and diminished by the culture-of-death squad has been maddening and painful. The answers to the question 'Why do they hate her so much?' have been various, but often come down to her loving acceptance of her handicapped child. That even this baby has been targeted confirms for me that, to a great extent, the attacks on Sarah have been about her belief in the sanctity of human life. Trig is the living proof of that belief.
*Update: William Jacobson writes a definitive post on the Trig Palin birth "issue."
**Update: A battle is raging over the VF article:
Kristol cited a passage in Purdum’s piece in which “some top aides” were said to worry about the Alaska governor’s “mental state” and the prospect that the Alaska governor may be suffering from post-partum depression following the birth of her son Trig. “In fact, one aide who raised this possibility in the course of trashing Palin’s mental state to others in the McCain-Palin campaign was Steve Schmidt,” Kristol wrote.Sarah Palin, Gerald Walpin. We're all mentally unstable now. Except Joe Biden.
