Sarah Palin to resign??

That's what Ben Smith Jonathan Martin is saying. Hot Air is updating. Something is going on. And anti-Palin commenters are having a field day with their nasty speculations.

Michelle has more. From CNN:

Palin: “I love my job. I love Alaska. It hurts to make this choice. But I’m doing what’s best for Alaska.” Tears in her eyes.

Says she will be able “to effect change from the outside.” America needs protectors of individual rights now more than ever. Promises to always be there for Alaska. Wants to work not just for Alaska, for the rest of the country.

If this means she's resigning to run for president it's a terrible idea. Maybe she's going to get a national talk show? Work for Fox News? Join the Marines? I'm confused.

Maybe the letter from Jonah was the last straw. He comments:

Well, aside from my timing being impeccable, the best I can say is I'm flabbergasted.

Not running again could make sense as a pre-presidential move. Resigning strikes me as very strange. I do hope all is well with her family and that there's the best possible reason for this fairly shocking news.

Oh and: It's not my fault!

And then:

Just in the Very, Very, Very Slim Chance this Was My Fault....

I'm gonna need to write "A Letter To Barack Obama."

Maybe she and her family just want their lives back.

*Jim Geraghty has a more complete statement from Sarah. C4P has the complete text of her announcement. Updated story from Politico here.

**Gateway Pundit has video of Sarah's announcement and some interesting commentary, including this:
God bless this courageous woman.
I second that.

***Good insights from Troglopundit. And more here on Sarah as mom.

  1. The Geraghty statement suggests that the mockery of Trig was the tipping point. So maybe your last observation is the truest. So much hate and cruelty and fabrications are out there against her and her family. I was astounded when I started looking into it.

  2. I think everyone is misinterpreting the direction she intends to travel. It didn’t sound to me like she was giving up. I suggest that her sights are not on the White House in 2012 but in reinvigorating the conservative base and destroying the liberal agenda. She will no longer be tied up with frivolous ethics violations suits because as a private citizen she can go on the attack against Obama & Co in unrestricted mode.
Liberals feared her while she was in office, I think they will rue the day the sicced their cronies on her and freed her from constraint. Think of Rush Limbaugh,
Think of Sarah Palin. 20000 came to hear her talk after the election in upstate NY recently. 100 people showed up for Joe Biden in Erie PA. Liberals beware!

  3. You make an excellent point. This may mean the unleasing of Saracuda.

  4. Sarah gets criticized for breathing, eating, sleeping and now consulting her children. So what? It's her family, her children so butt out of her life. RINOS and Libs are scared to death she will run. I say Go SARAH!

  5. That woman has endured more than most hardened politicians have had to endure. The filthy behavior by liberals (politicians, pundits, media personnel, and vocal citizens) will reflect on each and every one of them for the rest of their worthless lives.

May God Bless Sarah, and bring comfort to her and her family.

I would vote for her as President ANY DAY.

  6. To quote another major Republican politician/movie star: "She'll be back."
