Cardinal Mahoney: Kennedy was "champion of the powerless"

Oh really?

As a Catholic I pray for their souls but I wouldn't hold either Kennedy or Mahoney up as a role model for my kids.

Comments welcome.

Good grief! Kennedy a champion of the powerless? What a joke. That's the equivalent of saying Chuck Schumer is a big advocate for the 2nd amendment.
As far as Card. Mayhoney is concerned, that poor man hasn't seen the foootballl since kickoff. He must be starving for media atention to make such a ridiculous and outrageoulsly false statement as that whopper.

As a Catholic myself I find idiotic statements like this from some in the Church maddening. It is one thing to be kind in speaking of the dead, praising Kennedy for this of all things is like giving a green light to other politicians. Mahoney needs to be sent to retirement.

This story is a great example of how the left is splitting the church. Social Justice Catholics like to work on same issues as Liberals but abortion gets in the way. But lately we have seen (think Notre Dame speech approved by president of Notre Dame) and it is Catholics praising Catholic politicians even though their policies bring certain death to the most innocent of lives. Church should rethink the social justice because sometimes man can do more harm than good by doing "the will of God".

Mahony mentioned their disagreement over abortion and said that, for Kennedy, a pro-life position should have come not only from his Catholic faith but from the very social-justice issues to which he committed his life!

Those on the pro-life side should be more fair-minded than this!
