Is this some kind of sick joke?

Please, somebody -- tell me this is a dirty lie:

Scorsese is currently preparing to film a Frank Sinatra bio-pic starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
LEONARDO DICAPRIO!?! Could anyone be more wrong for the part?

(Well, actually, yes.)

For Leonardo, it's nice work if he can get it. But he and Frank have nothing in common.

*Update from Rick Busciglio, who queries, "Why not use Frank's own voice?"

I bet Pundit already heard about this but didn't know how to break it to me.

Comments welcome.

I never see the sense in casting Leonardo DiCaprio in any role, let alone Frank Sinatra. Harry Connick could certainly handle the voice, though I don't recall seeing him handle an acting role before. Of course, I think he should be able to act at least as well as Leonardo; that's a low bar.

I can't figure out Leo's appeal either. AT ALL.

Harry Connick has been in a number of movies, and does as well as any supporting actor. He also has the advantage of sounding a bit like Ol' Blue Eyes.

Leo is what? 45? and just now looks old enough to shave.

I have to tell you, DoCaprio almost turned into Howard Hughs by the end of the Aviator, its possible he could pull it off.

Totally Harry Connick. Leo - NOT.

Leo's pudgy babyface and complete lack of . . . Sinatra-ness is a deal-breaker. Let him play Peter Lawford of something. Not that that's a good fit either, but who cares.

Burning question: Who will play Joey Bishop??

I stand corrected, Connick has loads of acting credits. Joey Bishop is a tough one. My first thought was Steve Carrell but I am sure there must be someone better.

Maybe they could cast Adam Sandler and then I wouldn't even have to consider going to see it.

Hm. I'm slightly disappointed. Sinatra was so much more attractive than Leo. Ugh.

Did I say slightly? I meant something stronger than slightly.

I am not a Leo fan. But Scorsese is not in the habit of making bad movies. And someone as talented as Scorsese deserves some trust based on his track record.
I can't help wondering if they aren't just floating Leo's name just to get some early buzz such as is happening here.

You don't need someone who looks like Francis Albert to play the role [think George C. Scott as Patton]. You need someone who can recreate the Sinatra personality. DiCaprio is a man boy; Francis Albert was a man's man. Leo could pull off Sal Mineo. Maybe Jon Hamm could pull it off? But who could do Dino???
