President Obama, the eternal campaigner, rallied his OFA troops yesterday. His tone was prideful, mocking, desperate, and downright strange as he dismissed his collapsing poll numbers. Michelle Malkin has the video, which is actually sad when you remember that this is our president talking:
"We have been through this before, in Iowa," Obama said, referring to the first state to hold a 2008 Democratic nominating contest, which saw him capture a come-from-behind win. It's about him, not his country; he openly acknowledges it. But this is what has caused the country to say, "Huh?""All Washington said 'Oh, it's over,' hand-wringing angst ..."
Then Obama drew parallels to the media frenzy that greeted the nomination of firebrand Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin in 2008.
"The media was obsessed with it, cable was 24 hours a day," Obama told a friendly audience of grass-roots Democratic activists at a Washington forum broadcast live over the web.
"'Obama's lost his mojo,' you remember all that?
"There is something about August going into September where everybody in Washington gets all wee weed up!"Um . . . that was awkward.
I can think of two associations. First, that last little piggy who cried wee wee wee all the way home. In this case it's Obama who's protesting, with good reason, as his poll numbers plummet and his agenda flounders. But it's a rather odd presidential rallying cry. (The nursery rhyme, by the way, offers rich possibilities for satire with its references to the market, roast beef, and having none.)
The other meaning: wee wee is a term used by the recently (or not quite) potty-trained when it's time to make a bee-line for that special chair.

Mary Katherine Hamm thinks it might have something to do with that, sort of:
I, for one, believe he was probably telling us yet another story about profiteering doctors. This time, urologists, who are infamous for taking excessive urine samples from patients for extra cash. That's a practice that I think we can all agree is pretty "wee-weed up."She may be on to something. More reactions: Jimmie Bise queries: "Really, Mr. President? Wee-weed? What in the blue hells does that mean?" Michelle Malkin wonders if it's a Hawaiian thing or something? Pat Austin cuts to the chase and contends that Obama has wee-weed up his own presidency. Oops. Missed again.
But back to his earthbound poll numbers which triggered all this wee-wee talk. He's in deep doo-doo:
Ouch. Those are some wee-weed up numbers."As soon as Obama dropped below 52 percent . . . he was leaking real voters who had backed him in November," Morris tells Newsmax. "Now that he is down to 45 percent among likely voters . . . he is in deep political trouble."
Of greatest concern to Obama may well be his decline among all-important independent voters. Just 37.5 percent of self-identified independents say they approve of how Obama is handling the presidency. That compares with 59.2 percent of independents who disapprove.
"There is nothing counterintuitive in any of these numbers," pollster John Zogby of Zogby International tells Newsmax. "The president is clearly taken a slide — most especially with independent voters, who play such an important role in any legislation or policy support.
*Update: Spokestool Robert Gibbs explains it all to us:
"It's a phrase I use,'' White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said today, hesitating at his press briefing to offer a physical demonstration of the phraseology.Awfully presidential. What a class act."Let's do this in a way that's family friendly,'' Gibbs said. "I think 'wee-weed up' is when people get all nervous for no particular reason....
"August of 2008, everybody was nervous about whether the entire presidential campaign was slipping out from the hands of the president,'' Gibbs said, turning the page to this August, in which all the president's critics are declaring his health-care initiatives in peril. "This is sort of an August pundit pattern of people getting overly nervous about something that has a long way to go...
"Bedwetting would probably be the more consumer-friendly term for it,'' the press secretary said.
And Gibb's spin -- that people are "nervous for no particular reason" except that it's August, and Obama's epic fail policies have nothing to do with his loss of support -- that's just lame.

It was a rather odd thing for him to say. Obama has to be the most vain president we've had in recent history, and since he just beat out Clinton for that title, that's saying something.
The odd phrase is actually mis-transcribed. The phrase is really 'we weed up,' meaning, in Harvard ebonics, getting stoned to the max.
We Weed Up!
A puerile President or a dweeb gone 'all street' - either way.
By the Eternal Andy Jackson would put a ball in his Brain-pan!
That Sonovanitch Harry Truman would kick the crap out of him!
LBJ'd Piss in His Pocket!
Thus, ends the testosterone in the Democratic Party - not with a bang, but a wimp.
