May we see that in writing, Mr. President?

I don't know what Americans will make of Obama's pitch to sell them a bill that hasn't been written yet. His list of promises isn't embodied by any bill in Congress. I hope that August has taught us, among other things, that "the devil is in the details" and "we need to see that in writing."

It's been a rough summer for all of us, but it's been no picnic for Obama, either, buster. Still, he nobly refuses to take the safe or easy path:

What was true then remains true today. I understand how difficult this health care debate has been. I know that many in this country are deeply skeptical that government is looking out for them. I understand that the politically safe move would be to kick the can further down the road – to defer reform one more year, or one more election, or one more term.

But that's not what the moment calls for. That's not what we came here to do. We did not come to fear the future. We came here to shape it. I still believe we can act even when it's hard. I still believe we can replace acrimony with civility, and gridlock with progress. I still believe we can do great things, and that here and now we will meet history's test.

Because that is who we are. That is our calling. That is our character.
A Conservative Teacher is inspired. To run for Congress.

Iain Murray has some proposals for the president.

Mark Knoller tweets:
To try to keep the momentum going, Obama will make another statement on health insureance reform tomorrow morning at 1015am/ET.
I guess that's not a joke?

He's a salesman, no doubt.

I sold cars, and what they taught me was "Get the deal done and get 'em off the lot, before buyer's remorse sets in."

I didn't do all that well..

As you said... devil's in the details. We'll see how fast they try to write and sign, a la Stimulus rush-job.

Joe Wilson stole the day with his outburst. People know Obama is lying. The either know it by life experience (paying bills, establishing budgets), or just by common sense.

Because of Wilson's statement, Obama's speech was reduced to a 1:24 sound bite with Wilson's words being the last ones heard. The reactions of Obama, Pelosi and Biden were classic. Obama was angry and indignant, Pelosi was shock, but Biden's reaction was best. He knew.

My site has more detailed comments, both on this an Friedman. www.truthandcommonsense.com

Obama is a great salesmen. Perhaps he is best suited to sell Sham Wow or Ronco product. " We can insure 50 Million Americans for 3 easy payments of $19.99". Order now and we will include a free set of ID Cards.

Let me see if I understand President Obama's speech...

Health care is a devastating crisis that is destroying our nation, but if you already have insurance, nothing will change, except that it will cost you less, and if you have Medicare, you won't lose a single benefit, and if you're among the 30–45 million people who don't have health insurance, we'll give it to you through the Public Option, which will essentially be paid for by the government finally eliminating all fraud and waste from Medicare and Medicaid, but as mentioned, without eliminating a single benefit from either program, and any worries or fears that someone might have about these health reform bills are simply a product of evil scare tactics for vile partisan gain, because Republicans want to kill health reform and maintain the status quo, even though the health reform bills actually include many Republican ideas, which is strange, because President Obama says he's still waiting for "serious" Republican ideas, which the Republicans apparently don't have but which somehow are already in the health reform bills, because the president is a postpartisan uniter, even when he's blaming irresponsible Republican spending on the Iraq War and tax cuts for that $1 trillion deficit he says he inherited, and let's not talk about that other $8 trillion in deficits from his own spending over the next 10 years, because we're here to talk about health reform.

Did I miss anything?

Why do I hear Saul Alinsky in everything Obama utters? Even his speech to the school children was delivered with the sole intent of getting the naive underlings on his side only to slap 'em down when they're older and wising up.
This health care thing...what a bunch of malarkey!
He knows it's a bad deal all away around and fears he will not get re-elected if the program went into effect now or anytime during the next few years. That's why it will not go into effect until 2013...one year after he supposedly steals the White House again. By then him and his Chicago thugs will have us all under the United Nations (Remember, almost everything Obama does stems from the UN).
