Van Jones needs to resign or be fired. He has publicly used a very bad word about Republicans. (Yes, he apologized months later when it became public.) But that's just an utterance and counts for nothing compared with Jones's radical history as a self-avowed communist activist. (If that sounds something like "community organizer" there's a reason for that.) The man is also a 9/11 Truther, one who believes that the US was responsible for the demolition of the WTC and the deaths of 3000 people. His "disavowal" is implausible.
The more naive among us might imagine that one's status as an actual communist and America-hater might disqualify him from a position as advisor to the President of the United States but these are enlightened times we're living in, comrades. Read all about it from Nice Deb. She notes that Krauthammer and company predict that this czar will be flung under Obama's bus before this holiday weekend ends and the kiddies all head back to indoctrination camp school.*
Speaking of which, The Washington Examiner calls for an undo on the speech to school children:
Related posts: Back to school with President Obama, More follow-up activities for students[Environmentalism and multiculturalism] are already firmly cemented into the typical public school curriculum, and both lend themselves to calls for follow-up actions by students from the president, reinforced in the classrooms after the speech by his legions of "progressive" supporters from the ranks of the teachers unions. We are now getting a clearer idea of what union president Reg Weaver and Obama had in mind last year when they enthusiastically agreed to "partner" the White House and the NEA, using your tax dollars.
Equally worrisome here is the "Dear Leader" aspect of the president's speech to public schools students. A speech by the nation's leader exhorting students "to get focused and inspired for the new school year" would not be surprising in Havana, Caracas or Pyongyang. In Washington, D.C., however, it properly sets off all kinds of alarm bells. That is why thousands of parents are telling Talk Radio hosts and Internet web sites that they will be keeping their kids home next Tuesday. Such reactions caused the White House to back-pedal from the original plan to encourage kids to write essays on how they could help the president achieve his goals for America. Even better would be cancelling this speech entirely.
*Update on Van Jones: Read Michelle Malkin on the new vetting process:
Obama czardom is the deliberate end-run around transparency. Van Jones did not just accidentally slip through the cracks of the Obama vetters. They knew what he espoused before they installed him.Take it from Obama’s own political godmother Michelle and Barack’s consigliere and Chicago powerbroker Valerie Jarrett took full credit at the nuttroots dKos blogger conference last month (August 15, 2009) for recruiting him and closely following his career:
JARRETT:. You guys know Van Jones? [Applause. Moderator injects: "This is his house apparently."]
JARRETT: Oooh. Van Jones, alright! So, Van Jones. We were so delighted to be able to recruit him into the White House. We were watching him, uh, really, he’s not that old, for as long as he’s been active out in Oakland. And all the creative ideas he has. And so now, we have captured that. And we have all that energy in the White House.
Read the rest. Some hard-working bloggers are filling in the vetting void.
