What not to wear to a Medal of Honor award ceremony

You might think a posthumous Medal of Honor award ceremony would be a somber occasion, but not everyone would agree with you. Either this is an especially skillful photo shop effort or Michelle Obama has no clue whatsoever about the nature of this event. U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Jared C. Monti's parents received the award for him. I hope they didn't notice the first lady's stunningly inappropriate dress, but that's unlikely.

For the occasion, Mrs. O debuted a new floral frock in a bold, red rose print, accessorized with green kitten heels and chandelier earrings.

  1. At least she isn't wearing the 'belt of obedience' she had on the other day. Did you see that thing? It looked like something off of "The Fifth Element".

  2. UHHHHHGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH. Do these people even understand what the presidency IS?

  3. She is in her own "getting hers" world where they block off streets so she can get some greens, close off part of New York so she can have dinner. If you haven't noticed, it is all about her. Humility is not her strong suit, nor is having a tin ear.

  4. Oh my God!! The woman is either a complete ignoramus or deliberately snubbing the man who "posthumously" was awarded this medal.
Honest to God folks, there is no other explanation. Yes, this is intended in some part to be a celebration of this brave Soldier and the sacrifice he made to save his comrade in arms but it is also a VERY somber occasion especially when this Soldiers family is present. You don't wear the equivalent of a Hawaiian shirt to this occasion.
She has no class, no respect and no couth!
What a disgrace. At least Obama dresseds appropriately. She dressed as though she had a date later that afternoon and didn't want to bother changing.
What a disgrace!!! She has no shame though so what's the point.

  6. I though sleeveless teaparty dresses were taboo after Labor Day. Am I off base with this etiquette rule? Nonetheless--it should be for MO.

  7. Perhaps she had on her party dress for a shebang right after with Kanye, 50 cent and Van Jones but threw a little face time at this extremely irritating (to marxists) ceremony.

  8. Perhaps she got fashion advice from the pimps at ACORN.

  9. Gawd awful...proper decorum. Has this enormous staff know the meaning? She is Ivy educated. Uh huh?

  10. I think we should congratulate Michelle on practicing the kinds of hard-times domestic economies we associate with Scarlett O'Hara: making clothes out of old curtains. She appears to have recycled some chintz slip-covers that date from Mamie Eisenhower -- very eco-friendly. Yes, Mrs. O is violating the basic rules about Labor Day, as well as committing her now-customary fashion crimes: shoes that don't go with the rest of the outfit, hem too short and dress too tight to hide her bony knees and bowed legs, dress just generally ghastly, short sleeves looking like barbecue informality, oversized jewelry that says "Woolworth's". But her bad taste and oafish carriage could perhaps be excused if she ever showed any sense of occasion: the formality and simplicity that reflects her role as a representative of someone other than her individual self. If she were capable of taking advice she would employ someone to counsel her on these matters, but that's a gargantuan "if" -- she strikes me as the sort who surrounds herself with sycophants and enablers, not with anyone who would presume to have greater expertise than she in any area whatsoever. What a pill.

  11. She looks like a Performance Artist that ACORN should be helping to get house.

  12. You inspired me to write a post at A Conservative Lesbian. I swore I'd never make fun of her appearance, but this was just too far over the line.

  13. I think she had somewhere more important to be at and would not have a chance to change before her next appointment. I do not know much about fashion but I know what stands out like a neon sign.

  14. So rude. So clueless. I can't believe this woman is ever compared favorably with Jackie Kennedy.

  15. Winefred, that is the funniest thing I've read in ages! Scarlet O'Hara curtain dress. Bwah haha. I thought it looked a bit like my granny's sofa, but no, you nailed it, curtains for sure.

And I have to agree with you on the oafish carriage, she always galumphs along like a cart horse. It's horrible to watch.

  20. If I understand correctly, the award was given in honor of a soldier who died in a bloody firefight on the battlefield. So why not wear a jaunty frock with big red blotches splattered all over it that assaults not only the eyes but one's sense of decency? Color me shocked and awed at Miss O's apallingly poor taste, free-floating contempt for America and/or astonishing ignorance.

  22. Remember, this is the woman married to the man who gave Her Majesty the Queen of England an iPod of his speeches. I honestly don't think they give a rip.

  24. How in the world can any of the officers pictured with these moral degenerates continue to serve such a morally bankrupt administration?
Any true patriotic military officer would have resigned their commision and kept their dignity.

  25. She obviously has no shame. What the hell is this country coming to?

  26. Obama is The Country Club President, more interested in the perks than the job.

His wife is, for the first time, so proud of the American taxpayer. We are, after all, footing the bill for their lifestyle.
