Transparency, R.I.P.

Most of us wouldn't relish the idea of meeting Rahm Emanuel in a secluded, undisclosed location. But that is on Sen. Harry Reid's to do list tomorrow, where he, Emanuel, and other select ne'er-do-wells will gather to mash together a healthcare bill to impose on Americans, the majority of whom are opposed to the proposed reforms:

Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Baucus, Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee and a small handful senators and White House aides have already begun the process of combining the Finance bill with a measure approved by Dodd’s panel that has stronger support from liberal Democrats.
Sen. Grassley told Sean Hannity that the HELP version is "to the left of" the Baucus "concept." Sen. Mitch McConnell said this:

“Sen. Snowe called me this morning to let me know that while she continues to have serious, substantive policy reservations with this proposal, she wanted to keep the process moving. I share her concerns about the direction of this bill once it leaves the committee, and her call for transparency before we vote to proceed to any bill on the floor.

"The fact is, this proposal will never come before the Senate. But what we do know is that the bill written behind closed doors here in the Capitol will be another 1,000-page, trillion-dollar Washington takeover. We know it will slash a half-trillion dollars from seniors’ Medicare, add new taxes and raise premiums. That’s not reform.”

It's not transparency either.

Sen. Snowe's ludicrous comment about "history calling" seems to indicate that she wanted to jump on the bandwagon. Before the real vote, she might want to consider that it's possible to end up on the wrong side of history
