Pelosi's challenge

Much of the news this morning is by, for, and about Nancy Pelosi. For those who took a break from politics this weekend, Madame Speaker's major points:

- She will deliver Obamacare to the masses whether they like it or not (and they won't), because they "need it," much like a child who needs foul-tasting medicine but irrationally resists. You must force it down his throat. It's your job as a parent. And she's our parent.

- Madame Speaker has much in common with the tea party protesters, though they are "directed" by the GOP, and not a force. (h/t: Hot Air)

- House members may have to commit political suicide for Obamacare. But this is a problem for Madame Speaker, seeing that her majority is made up of just these members. In a Pelosi profile today, Politico observes that she is one tough cookie who will defend her majority to the death:

“I’m not yielding one grain of sand; we’re fighting for every seat,” the speaker said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

But passing an increasingly radioactive bill while maintaining that could be tricky:

Pelosi insists she will fight for every Democratic seat this November. But as Election Day draws nearer, Pelosi will most likely have to make tough calls on which vulnerable Democratic candidates to help and which ones to cut loose. Those choices would cause conflict in her caucus and could threaten the Democratic majority if she picks poorly.

It could all blow up in her face and leave her with neither a legislative victory nor a majority.

But if it comes down to choosing between passage of Obamacare and her majority, which will win?

Pelosi “will put a bullet in the head of anyone she needs to,” said a Democratic insider. “Rangel, any incumbent that looks like he’s going to lose. She’ll do anything it takes to keep her majority, anything.”
