When you've lost David Gergen . . .

. . . and Maureen Dowd, and Bill Maher, and James Carville, and Donna Brazile, and Chris Matthews, and Peggy Noonan . . .

. . . you're toast.

Gergen is panicking: Mr. President, Take Command

Enough is enough! After the latest failure by BP to plug the gaping hole, it is time for President Obama to take full command of this growing national catastrophe. Immediately!
I didn't know he had it in him!

Mr. Gergen has some concrete suggestions, among them:

-- Call off the finger pointing until we get out of this mess

-- And finally, very importantly, exercise the powers of leadership every day from the Oval Office

Mr. Gergen may as well save his exclamation points; Obama's idea of leading is fingerpointing.

Update: Another from Maureen Dowd: "The oil won’t stop flowing, but the magic has."

  2. Obama is toast. Finger pointing is about the only thing Obama's good at these days.

  3. I thought Gergen himself was toast after that stupid "Ted Kennedy's Seat" debate moderation question. Whatever happened to Mr. 41, anyway?

  4. Jill, that is too funny!

Gergen is beside himself, Noonan is flabbergasted, Matthews is wondering if that feeling running down his leg is actually something he's going to need to clean up after, and Maher can't pull off his smartest man in the room schtick and still be supporting a guy whose best effort to deal with the oil leak in the gulf is to just demand someone 'plug the hole'. But Carville is something else. My guess he is looking to provide cover so rank and file Dems can move away from the president as they attempt to maintain as many seats and as much political power as possible before the drop of the proverbial shoe.

    Fun post Jill, and spot-on.

  5. They'll be back simpering at his feet, I have little doubt. The alternative, to them, will not be contemplated. Smaller government that actually does what it's supposed to do will not occur to them as a viable solution. They want this president to be the god he told them he is, to wave his hand and fix all the ills in the world. That kind of childlike devotion and misplaced faith may waver, but it will not fail. Their false god is still their god, even if they stomp their little feet and wave their pudgy fists in the air.

That said, it's fun to watch this, and I agree with Nicholas that Carville, while certainly feeling the pain, is probably also seizing a "crisis" to help put Hillary in a position to do more than solicit donations on her again-active website.

  6. What would you expect from a community organizer?
Obama is a waste, he promised change. He did that - change for the worst. Its shows everyday. Did you see him in Chicago over the weekend, in the rain with that huge umbrella? He looked pathetic.

  7. Jim Carville is the only big-time Democratic adviser with more brains than a Hong Kong buffet and more balls than bowling alley.

When Bubba was sinking after 'not having sex' with Lewinsky and Big Hair George Stefanapolis beat all the rats off SS Clinton, Jim Carville dug-in and fought like the Marine that he is.

    Gergen? A Bon-bon.
