Almost done with the king's speech

The transcript of today's press conference is a treasure trove of Obama weirdness. I'll excerpt just a couple more bits and then try to let it go.

There's something wrong with his attitude below, as if governing the United States of America is some kind of game:

They’re in one week, they’re out one week.  And then they’re saying, Obama has got to step in.  You need to be here.  I’ve been here.  I’ve been doing Afghanistan and bin Laden and the Greek crisis.  You stay here.  Let’s get it done.
"Doing Afghanistan"? That's a disturbingly casual way to refer to a war in which Americans are risking and losing their lives. (And what, pray tell, is he "doing" about the Greek crisis?)

The next excerpt makes me wonder whether he's ever driven a car, though I guess he has, since he's familiar with "car notes":
It’s the equivalent of you’re driving down the street and the yellow light starts flashing.  The yellow light is flashing.  Now, it hasn’t been a red light yet.
Oookay. If I didn't already know he was the greatest orator on the planet, I'd think he was a pretty incoherent speaker.

  1. If the light is flashing yellow, it isn't going to turn red. You are correct to ask if he has ever driven before.

  2. Obviously he meant when the light changes to yellow (before the red). However, he is making the common mistake of trying to speed up to get through before it changes to red. That is the wrong thing to try to do. What is supposed to be done is slow to a stop (if it can be done safely) so as not to run the red light.

What does a flashing yellow light indicate?
Adapting to conditions means more than just changing you're driving because of changes in weather, the time of day, or the road itself.

It also means reacting when you see flashing yellow lights - an indication that there's a dangerous intersection, congested road or another unusual traffic condition ahead.

Flashing yellow means proceed with caution. Defensive drivers will:

Slow down, approach with caution, and be ready to act accordingly
Keep their eyes open and analyze the elements around them
Concentrate on those that are an immediate safety threat
Prepare to react to the unexpected action of other vehicles or pedestrians
Take the time to observe every hazard, decide what to do about each, and react properly
