Rep. Paul Ryan has endorsed Mitt Romney. Though I haven't worked all the way through to the acceptance stage yet, I think the addition of Ryan to the GOP ticket would take a little of the edge off the pain of a Romney nomination, a la McCain with his choice of Palin. Would you be in favor of Ryan as VP, or do you think he's more useful where he is? Along those lines, Jim Pethokoukis instructs on the amazing difference Paul Ryan has already made.
In other news, lefty loons say the darnedest things:
Gov. Jerry Brown on how to become a millionaire:
Anybody who makes $250,000 becomes a millionaire very quickly if you save it. You just need four years.VP Joe Biden cracks a "joke" that is nothing but a bald statement of fact:
I never had an interest in being a mayor 'cause that's a real job. You have to produce. That's why I was able to be a senator for 36 years. And from the Who Cares? department, Peggy Noonan starts to wake up and smell the rancid coffee brewing in the Obama administration. She uses words such as "devious" and "creepy." Welcome to reality, Peggy.

Paul Ryan adds very little balance to the ticket. By that I mean he and Romney are both finance geeks.
ReplyDeleteRomney needs to bulk up his weaknesses in lack of military and foreign policy. (Do not take this as my saying he has no other weaknesses).
While Ryan would excite conservatives, I can't see him being on the short list.
I am thinking your Gov or Allen West. I think West is too bold of choice for Romney, though.
But Ryan would go a long way toward conservative-izing the ticket. And no one thinks he's a phoney. He's not only a rockstar to the base but a guy with no real negatives. Also has the ability to communicate without alienating those who may not want to hear what he's got to say. Not a bomb-thrower. McDonnell might be acceptable but Romney will need more than that to win.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm a politics geek, and I've barely heard of McDonnell. Ryan would be better.
DeleteFunny post: who knew Jerry Brown could multiply? And I wonder how astronomical your salary would have to be to have an after-tax take of 250K in CA? Then if you live in Mom's basement, you can squirrel it all away!
Joe Biden. I knew Obama was going to pick him when he went to that preacher's debate and said determining the beginning of life was "above my pay-grade". Biden sneered at Scott Ritter with that same line. "Pay-grade" is gummint-speak, just like his "joke" here. Delaware owes us big-time for this clumsy ass.
See, I have always viewed the VP slot as a bomb-thrower. To me that is their job. You get someone who will go out and attack the President more directly, allow the presidential candidate to stay above the fray, compare and contrast policy positions, and make the case of why they are the better choice.
ReplyDeleteAlso, have you heard Paul Ryan give a speech? He is dry. I like what he says, but he isn't an exciting speaker. He was the keynote breakfast speaker at a Constitution day thing a few months back. Everyone at my table agreed that while they like what he said, he didn't present it well, and one lady commented he needed to improve if he ever wanted to run for higher office. Watch his CPAC speech. It must be on you tube. That is one of the better speeches I have seen him give and even that wasn't great.
But you are right, he needs to excite the base. I know many who say they won't vote for him. He needs to draw those people in.
Bombs away, yeah. That's why Palin was so great - remember her convention speech? Ann Coulter recently said she found Palin's voice grating (I love Ann, but her Mitt-crush is embarrassing), but that's a feature, not a bug! Tell them Dems, Sarah - I ain't ready to make nice!
DeleteWest would be good, you're right. So would Rubio. But Ryan, I remember he was one of the onlies who dared to push back at Obama at that silly White House summit in 2009. He could pick up a hatchet.
I am too young to have a Veep candidate running on a major party ticket who's younger than I am.
ReplyDeleteCheer up, Trog. As my grandma always said, getting older is better than the alternative!
DeleteUnlike Mr. TrogloPundit, I have already had a Veep candidate (Palin) on the ticket younger than myself. Age not being a factor, Ryan's general conservative creds and leadership makes him my number one choice for VP.
ReplyDeleteI really don't think Romney needs someone with foreign policy creds on the ticket. That seems to be the one area conservatives have little issue with him. The voting public obviously don't put much stock in that ticket balance either. Look who they voted for last round as VP.
