So the White House, and its concept of a Christmas-themed event, have come to this:
The South Korean rap star known as PSY is still slated to perform at the White House’s “Christmas in Washington” concert – taping tonight – despite the discovery of an anti-American performance the rapper delivered at a concert protesting the Iraq War back in 2004. The lyrics of the song, “Dear American,” include:Bing Crosby he ain't. But he is sorry "for how these lyrics could be interpreted." Lol.
Kill those f***ing Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives
Kill those f***ing Yankees who ordered them to torture
Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers
Kill them all slowly and painfully

The guy apologized, and it was a pretty good apology - none of this "if you were so sensitive as to object" stuff. I'll give him a pass for that. (Got nothing to say about Obama - he'd have gone with or without an apology. He'll do something worse next week.)
ReplyDeleteNRO's Nordlinger had a good 3-part series last week on the political divide and how to start taking back the culture. He mentioned somebody who worked for a celebrity who'd told him "My boss is just impressionable - he mouths what he hears. If Conservative ideas were heard more often, he'd mouth those, too." That's what I think about Psy.
This was during the ongoing CBS and NYT Abu Ghraib coverage. MUDVILLE GAZETTE has a great, multipart examination of what happened with that - how one of the American culprits uncles tried to blackmail the Army: "Let my nephew go with a wristslap, or these pics go to the media!" They wouldn't be blackmailed, and Mapes and Rather played a contained and investigated incident into a huge scandal. MUDVILLE demonstrates how the aggression against our soldiers there skyrocketed as a result of the unrelenting publicity.
They wanted Bush to lose the "War for Hearts and Minds" - they wanted GOP failure at any cost. And these weren't ditzy pop stars, these were American political players who knew exactly what impression they wanted to make on the impressionable. Traitors.
In a Democracy, the people get the entertainment chosen by the pre-pubescent children of an Empty Suit.
ReplyDeleteChances are the White House didn't send out the invites, but I can't believe that they didn't have veto power over it.
