Are bishops willing to go to jail over HHS mandate?

Virginia AG Ken Cuccinelli on how to fight Obama's HHS mandate:

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli said on a radio program Wednesday that going to jail may be an effective way to protest a mandate tied to ObamaCare that requires employers to provide contraceptive coverage. [. . .]

Cuccinelli called the mandate an attack on the Roman Catholic Church and religious freedom and suggested that opponents fight back by forcing the feds to crack down on those who don't comply.

Cuccinelli, who is Catholic, said he had spoken to a bishop who suggested he'd go to jail to protest it.

"My local bishop said he told a group, `Well, you know, I told a group I'm ready to go to jail,' and I told him, `Bishop, don't take this personally - you need to go to jail," Cuccinelli said, trying to balance levity with seriousness.
I hope the bishop was serious.

  1. It would be a courageous, bold, cosmic, ultimately effective gesture.

    1. Just an observation......hitler got pretty far with his tyranny. The people of germany were considered a "religious" people and yet hitler reached the point of gas chambers for millions. WHEN does the outrage begin? It should have begun a lot sooner than now. Apathy still exists. The will to take up arms and fight is smothered by this apathy and cowardice. Just how long are we to wait here? Do we wait until AFTER said bishops and other faithful are subjected to their new version (whatever shape it takes) of the "final solution"?

Can you visualize the jailing of a number of bishops? This would be the most effective means of accomplishing the repeal of the Obanamcare mandate. Suggest lay Catholics ask their bishop the same question amd request an answer. If not forthcoming, we should make known to the public this lack of a reply.

  4. I say not only Bishops but priests and religious communities who have employees. Let's fill those jails sooner rather than later. Overwhelm the system and the system will change because there will be an outcry from faithful Catholics when this hits the media!!

  5. Christians need to be willing to pay the price to uphold what they believe. They should not just 'sing louder' to avoid hearing the holocaust.

  6. The Administration knows that sending bishops to jail would be a PR nightmare for Obama. Instead, they will attack with crushing fines that won't stop until these Catholic organizations are bankrupt. Or the government could withhold Medicare/Medicaid reimbursements from Catholic hospitals until they run out of cash.

  7. I do not believe that a majority of U.S. Catholics would do much other than make some remarks about "What's the big deal?" 70% of U.S. Catholics do not even attend Mass. A majority of U.S. Catholics voted for Obama. Contraception is part of a majority of Catholic couples lifestyle - if they are even married.

If we can't hold true to the basics, like going to Mass and understanding that the President of the United States is the most radical abortion supporter in the history of the U.S. Senate and Presidency, we certainly do not have either the discernment or the fortitude to understand the frontal assault on Catholicism that has been launched by this administration. That Catherine Sibelius, Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi have not been excommunicated from the Church speaks to the abject failure of leadership by the U.S. Catholic bishops - much like the German bishops during the Third Reich.
